The Postcard Project
My postcard project initially started as a class assignment in 2020, but has since launched into a yearly tradition that I've completed in Texas, Iceland, and Alaska. Each summer I dedicate time to creating hand-painted, watercolor postcards depicting scenery from my travels. I write a story coinciding with each painting that are then are sent to collectors all around the world. As of this year I have painted 400+ postcards over the last 4 years. Completed while traveling and living out of my camper van in Alaska in the summer of 2022.
2021 Alaska Postcards
Completed during my first summer in Alaska in 2021. The day after I graduated college I hopped on a plane to central Alaska to live in a cabin in the woods for the summer. For three and a half months I lived in a dry cabin (meaning no running water or plumbing) outside of Fairbanks. I spent my summer traveling the state, learning to fly fish, hiking mountains, camping, berry-picking, and painting.
2020 Iceland Postcards
Completed during my one month stay at the NES artist’s residency in Northern Iceland. During this one month I worked completely alone in a remote fishing village of 500 people. This mail art project kept me creative and connected to family, friends, and strangers who wanted to support my trip.
2020 Texas Postcards
Completed during May 2020, two months after the pandemic shut down the world. These postcards were part of a mail art project for one of my classes that unexpectedly shifted online. I painted 21 postcards of Texas landscapes and iconography.
